Here at Berky Boats our main focus is building high end Custom or Semi-Custom Offshore Catamarans with high weight to strength ratio. Obviously, there is lots to consider when coming up with the laminate schedule. With a back round building Windsurf Boards for World Cup racing in the 80's where every ounce mattered almost as much as the design. The test bed was invaluable. We bring a lot of that knowledge into our construction of these boats.
Considering efficiency. Less weight means less horsepower to go the same speed. Less horsepower means less fuel, which means greater range. Our Catamarans can be powered with twin engine outboards verses most cats in our size range which need Quad engines to push their hulls.
Unlike many monohulls where excessive weight improves the quality of their ride. Our light weight construction helps our ride quality The tunnel in the Berky 40 is designed to capture air pressure in the tunnel acting like a cushion. By keeping the hull light this increase in tunnel volume of air and acts like a long travel suspension system.
Using high end material such as carbon fiber and Epoxy is much more expensive but is mandatory to be able to get the correct weight to strength ratio.
So, why does weight matter? Our boat is designed to have a fantastic ride, be more efficient needing less fuel, and increased range, which are all important to us and hopefully you as well.
